Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Thanks, everyone, for thinking of Sebastian
I jsut wanted to write and thank all of you for checking in on us and making sure my little man was/is ok. You have no idea how much this means to me. Thank you so, so much. mom2coy - to answer your question, I asked, too, what "damaged intestines" meant. The GI nurse I talked to today said, "Let's say inflamed." So his stomach and intestines are inflamed. The GI nurse (the one who never sent the lab requests) called me today and was surprisingly nice. She is going to talk to our GI tomorrow morning about possibly switching Bassy's meds...although I am not getting my hopes up. She also told me that even the tiniest amount of gluten can cause Celiacs/irritate Celiacs, so I need to clean my counters. WHAT? I don't eat ANYTHING this child is allergic to when he is awake...and our house is egg and nut free. I don't just leave loavesof bread unpackaged sitting on top of his bottles.

Anyway, the nurse is going to call me back tomorrow about the meds and hopefully, we'll get the blood results soon. If Bassy does have Celiacs, I am getting tested, too. I have always had random stomach problems, but I always chalked them up to lactose intolerance, etc.
Elyse's mom - do you know what symptoms of Crohns in kids are? My uncle has it, but he is old. Thank you!!!

Thanks again, everyone

Yeah, Melissa, you really need to quit using bread as a wash cloth. That's not a good idea :)

Pictured: G'mom w/3 kids. I'm mom to 1 angel Melissa (dec'd 11/92 - hypoplastic left-heart syn.)
2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
Just wanted to say I've been following this closely, but I've been on a different computer that I couldn't sign in on. I'm really glad there was no ee. Eric is back on Prevacid for 6-8 weeks then will be rescoped to check for that & further down as well. I am really nervous about Prevacid because I read a study that indicated that it could cause food allergies in certain individuals. Of course, the study was on adults, but we definately don't need more food allergies here. I hope you get to the bottom of what is going on....I know how frustrating it is. Take Care, Ellen

Melissa~ You have to realize that we all feel so connected to each other that we think of all these pager kids as our own. So when you type that you are going to the ER we are all on our toes waiting to hear what happened. We also all felt outraged by the way the docs treated it you. We are just one big pager family. LOL! I hope you find some answers in the blood tests. Give you big linebacker a hug from me and Nolan. And yes we should start a football team;)

I don't know a ton about crohns, but I know an adult who has it and what he has gone thru. They are testing their young son for it. One of the symptoms is inflamed intestines. other symptoms: Small intestine: Watery diarrhea, abdominal pain, weight loss, appetite loss, and slowed growth. Slowed growth may precede other symptoms by several years. Often the symptoms are very subtle. Colon: Bloody diarrhea with mucus or pus, cramping abdominal pain, urgency to defecate Anus/Rectum: Painful defecation, rectal bleeding, rectal pain Upper small intestine: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, poor appetite

The person I know who has it is on a very strict diet, no sugar/carbs, very low fiber....he eats mostly meat and veggies, he can have honey as a sweetener though

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
we're always thinking of one another on here. its amazing how an online forum can bring others together. i'm surprised they told you to "clean your counters" as if implying you dont watch what is around him. sounds to me like they are grasping @ straws tyring to figure out what is going on. clinical IBD conditions (chron's, colitis) cause weight loss.. so i'd have a hard time going that route. i'm no doctor though are they considering a lower GI?

did they tell you no more solids? did they tell you no more solids too?

Kell - I agree. He certainly has never had a problem withi weight. You know what? I just tend ot think it is all food alelrgy related. I introduced chicken again the night before his scope (because he's been fine on it, it seemed, before), and BAM! Worst night in weeks! And he never actually got any better. I stopped chicken about a week ago, and last night we had a pretty good night. I think it is all delayed reactions. However, I have a doc appt for myself tomorrow. I'm getting a referral to get tested for Celiacs and for allergies...
