Questions ..
Sorry I have not been posting lately. Things have been kind of tough around here. If it was not first for God, then everyone's prayers, my parents (husband is back to work)- I would have gone crazy by know. I am still very blessed- let God be exaulted. Good news- Atalia has bms on her own-praise God! As some of you know, Amalia was constipated from the get go and required milk of magnesia until 9 months of age to go... I am seeing the GI specialist (new one)tomorrow and have some questions for him that I wanted to ask you ladies first, to get a wider perspective/more wisdom =). Atalia was born with a GI system full of gas- her tummy was rumbling the very first evening and she required burping on just colostrum. Her first sign of reflux was making choking/gagging faces while at sleep, then she was picked up and a minute or two later let out a huge burp- this happened day one- no formula, just bf. She continues to be extremely gassy, her tummy being distented (sp?) and hard most of the time- before and after feedings, her being extremely uncomfortable and crying if you try to massage it.. During feedings (lately funny as the day goes on gets worse- first feeding around 8:00am the best the last 3 days, as the day goes on things get worse- night time horrendous) the minute you try to burp her she pulls her legs up and arches and is just is in so much pain, it feels like you are giving her posison instead of formula. At 8:00 am this morning she did pretty well like I said before then she jsut seems to go down hill after 12:00. (Thus might all change, who knows). There are no rashes, no vomiting (spit ups rarely, mainly silent refluxer), no blood or mucus in stool...Is this just gas that she will outgrow, or could it be a a sign of something else? LAst question, the few times she has spit up, there is a white phlegm like substance in the milk- any of your babies done that? Sign of something else going on? (The substance still there even when she pit up the prevacid) She refluxes more than Amalia- has choked several times on her reflux- seems to me that is becasue of all the gas. Anyways, sorry sooo long. May God Bless you all.- thinking about everyone.

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Mely, I'm so sorry that Atalia is struggling. Unfortunately, I can't help you much in the gassiness department, but I can tell you that Halley's spit-up often had phlegm in it when she was small. The doctor told me that it was nothing to be too concerned about and that it was very likely reflux-related (same with her constant congestion). It is something to talk to the GI about tomorrow though. I hope that she is able to get relief soon. Sending you big hugs and lots of prayers.

Sorry you are having so many issues. I just wanted to jump on here and say she sounds a lot like Aubrey did. Aubrey did not have mucosy bm's and the rash on her bottom until 5-6wks old. I would say the phelm she is spitting up may be reflux or milk related. I am not sure what "normal" spit up looks like sense both of mine were MSPI. I pray the next one isn't... I would def wonder if all the gas is not related to the milk too. Good luck and keep us posted. J

I would say that all the gas could def be related to the formula. Little ones are usually gassy but this sounds excessivly. I forget, was Amalia on a hypo formula? It might be something to think about with Atalia. Abby was def MSPI but never had a rash, mucous or blood in her stools. She was just WAY gassy and down right uncomfortable, even on a good dose of Prevacid.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I remember Maggie's belly being as tight as a drum all the time. She didn't do well with me trying to massage it either. I really don't have any advice, Maggie's just kind of disappeared. We never really figured out what was causing it. I was bfeeding the whole time and avoided gassy foods for the most part.

Thanks so much everyone. Amalia was never on a hypoallergenic formula- I tried nutramigen and Alimentum for a couple of days (I think 3 days Alimentum, 2 nutramigen) and she did worse on them and I just did not have the patience to try for a week. MSPI is the only thing that crosses my mind with Atalia but since she was born this gassy- even with no formula-and does not have the usual signs (thanks mommyto2- we'll see if that happens later, and abbysmom- thanks, I'll mention it to the GI too) I might go ahead and ask for occult blood in stool test to make sure. I tried Alimentum for 2 days and she actually did worse...I know it's not long enough, but I hated to keep trying and seeing how she got. Also, because lately she is doing better in AM and just gets worse, MSPI did not make sense..you would think she would just do horribly all the time. She did the same even when I mostly breastfed her and just gave her maybe one once of formula per day... I am not bfing her anymore because my breasts just suddenly dried out. I think it's all the stress. Thanks again everyone. I will try to post you guys on the appointment. Please pray for wisdom for the doctor. God Bless.

Jennifer - 1st time mom. Lauren (6/1/07) diagnosed 9/07 with GER at 3 1/2 months. Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am. Currently drinking whole milk and eating great!!
No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
I hope things go well tomorrow and the new GI is the blessing you need! I don't really have much advice, but it does remind me so much of Lauren. We weren't diagnosed until 3 1/2 months so a lot of her early days are a blur...

Best of luck tomorrow!

Do you still have milk? I wasn't sure if you might still bf. If you do and are at all interested, you might try the elimination diet, full blown as described on the dr sears site.. This has been a miracle for us. If your interested, I'm happy to answer any questions. If not, maybe you can figure out the right formula. I'm so sorry she is struggling so. Have you tried some mylicon(sp) gas drops. Those can really help at times. I hope the dr can help. Hugs!

Sorry, I just saw where you said your not bfing any more. If you do want to try and get your milk back you can, but it might be too stressful. You guys are in our prayers.
Check with your
doctor first!
