Aidan Update & I'll miss you guys!
We took Aidan to the Urgent care today and it was definitely thrush. So we are on the nasty liquid Nystatin for a week. The pharmacist said he is supposed to leave it in his mouth and swoosh it around. Um Yeah I'll make sure my 17 month old swooshes for a few minutes before swallowing. LOL! I also just wanted to say I will miss you guys over the next month as we are going on a much needed vacation to Minnesota for the next 4 weeks. We leave on Tuesday but I have a crazy hectic day tomorrow. I can't wait I have so many built in baby sitters that I intend to utilize. We are heading to our lake home for a week and then we are celebrating Nick's 5th birthday with his Grandparents. I can't believe he is turning 5 already. Anyways, even though all my family and even my lake home has Internet I am going to try and take a break for a month and just try to live in the moment and pretend that my boys are the most normal healthy boys out there. I really need to take a break for my own mental health. I hope everyone has a good month and I will check in when I get back or sooner if I go into withdrawl.

Just a tip on the Thrush~ I put the dose in a med cup and dipped a qtip in it and spread it all around the los mouth. Then I dumped the rest in his mouth. This help to make sure it got all around. Have a great trip. Where in MN are you going? The weather is getting so hot~ a great time to go to the lake!

Good luck with the swooshing! LOL! Don't you love the directions we get sometimes? Amber's idea sounded good.

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
Darn - thrush is so hard to get rid of. When Halley had it, we soaked a corner of a washcloth in it and wiped inside her mouth and her tongue with it, then gave her the rest with a syringe. The q-tip is a good idea as well. Hope you have a wonderful vacation!

Mila is on Peptamen JR 30 cal by NG tube. Open Heart Surgery 2/08/08. Captopril, Zantac, Losec, Lasix.
have a great vacation!

nystatin can be hard to use. If the thrush doesn't clear up pretty soon, you can ask for diflucan, which is an oral, not topical med...

Feel better kiddo!

My son had thrush when he was 8 months old and the nyastatin did not work. Because I was nursing my doctor put me on diflucan which he got through the breastmilk and it cleared up much more quickly. We had been dealing with it for two months and the diflucan cleared it up in 10 days. Good luck!
