Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Why is his reflux out of control again?!! This kid makes me want to throw myself off my deck
Arggghhhh. Sorry to complain yet again, but this child is driving me even more insane than my MIL makes me feel. I wish he came with a manual - even one written in another language - so I could at least have a clue as to what to do with him. Sebastian has been throwing up everything he eats and drinks (and I do not feel like it is a virus at ALL), and he has been spitting up for days now. He had diarrhea once yesterday, but he didn't have it before and hasn't had it since. I am back to changing his clothes 3 or so times a day (which at one point would have been heavenly...now 3 times seems like a ton) and mine, too. WHY????????????????????I don't know if he is reacting to his food, so I took him off chicken again (now we are back to sweet potatoes and pears and I swear that if I didn't need to give him his Prevacid on solids, I would give him nothing but his bottles). He is puking in his sleep, and I know that is part of the reason he is fighting sleep (did I mention that he will NOT sleep). but other times, he just wants to play (like at 2 a.m. last night). He is driving me crazy because just when I think he is just so uncomfortable that he can't eat or sleep, he makes it pretty darn clear that he wants to do what he wants or look out!

Right now, my husband is trying to put him to sleep (rocking), but he is screaming like a banshee (sort of sounds like I am about to). No, wait - my husband just laid him in the crib (I have a video monitor), and he is still screaming.

I cannot tell if his reflux is making him cry or if his crying is making him reflux. I don't know if his Prevacid isn't working or if he is just reacting to every damn bite of non-Neocate substance that I put in his mouth.

I just wish our GI had given us our endoscopy and flex sig results before jetting off on her vacation.

Thanks for listening! And if anyone has any sleep tips for me (three months of CIO just haven't done it for us), please feel free to share! Also feel free to mail me a giant adult beverage because I am not much of a drinker but I am about to be.

Mary & Nicholas 7-17-03 (non-refluxer)allergies, asthma on Singulair and Flovent & Aidan 1-28-07(my refluxer)Nissen Fundoplication on June 20, 2008, FTT, MSPI, DGE, ear tubes, allergies and severe GERD now currently taking just Prevacid and drinking Elecare Vanilla 1+.
BIG HUGS! I feel your pain. I seriously wrote a post just like that at your sons age. Our son went through a period where Prevacid just didn't cut it for him anymore and was effecting his sleep severely. We had to switch to Nexium and although it was a pain in the butt to administer it really got him through a rough patch. I still feel like everything I put in Aidan's mouth other then Elecare makes him react. It is incredibly frustrating. Just so you know you don't have to give the Prevacid with food so you could go back to just formula to see if the reflux improves. As for the sleep we did everything under the sun but my son never slept well day or night when his reflux wasn't under control. Honestly I didn't know what a 2 hour nap was until he had his surgery so I am not sure there is much you can do until the reflux is managed. I hope you get the results from your tests soon and that they provide some answers for you. Hang in there and stay away from that deck! LOL!

Mom of 2 great boys. Payson is three and healthy. Willis is 1.5 and has possible silent reflux. We are still working with his GI to get a diagnosis. He is on Prevecid 15mg.
Oh boy! I wonder what percentage of reflux parents are drinkers!?!?! LOL. I know that there are days that I, like you, have felt like becoming a drinker!! Good luck and hopefully things will improve!

I hop ethe rest fo your day gets better. One of the partners in the pratice won't give you the results....I wish they could. It has to be awful NOT knowing....that's the hardest.

Did he/she at least give you some clue after the EDG and testing as to what they think it gogin on or what they saw or at least let you have copies of the picutres. That could give you soem clue as to what is going on.

I know our GI did that. Jedd's was all clear though.

Hi all. I just brok eout the Mylanta. This kid is acting just like he did before he got onto Prevacid. Arching, screaming, etc. I put him on his changing pad, shot in some Mylanta, and he is asleep. Just not sure howoften I can give it to him. I'm going to call the doc on Monday and ask to try Nexium. This is ridiculous - my son deserves better than this.

Coyle Eagan. One Year Old. Doing well on Cow's Milk flavored with juice :) Drinking two bottles of Go&Grow daily. Eating solids better but still have rough days. No More Silent Reflux-that I can hear anyway.. but puking again. Zantac 2ML 2X daily.
dont apologize. this is the place to come when you need to vent. at least for me it is because DH says I complain too much but no one on here says that i do!

this might be a seperation anxiety thing? coyle is going thru it soooo bad. he wont go to anyone but me (and for some strange reason my sisters guy friend, lol). if i dont pick him up he'll sit on the floor, hold on to my pants, and suck his fingers crying for me to pick him up! he too has been more spitty but like your guy mine is cutting his 6th tooth and i've noticed the two eye teeth starting to drop as well. more drool=more spit and more liquid poops.

as far as the crying, i think it aggravates the reflux. its why i abandon CIO if his crying gets so bad that he starts to reflux. for 2 weeks i let him sleep on me or with me again while he was really ill. now, it has been a struggle getting him back into bed. i've taken to almost rocking him to sleep so i'm no help with sleep issues. i was so lucky for so long. at least he did sleep 11 hours last night tho!

i can't believe no one else can deliver those results to you. UGH!!! will they call Monday? i'm so anxious for you.

read my myspace message finally too. thanks for responding when you are so busy! i do believe these boys are so very similiar. i'll let you know how the allergist goes on Thur.

Jennifer - 1st time mom. Lauren (6/1/07) diagnosed 9/07 with GER at 3 1/2 months. Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am. Currently drinking whole milk and eating great!!
No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
Good call with the Mylanta! Isn't it funny how quickly we forget these things??

I remember having days like your having a few months back...I used to tell dh when he got home from work that I couldn't be on maternity leave anymore -- I was going to work because anything would be easier than trying to figure out my daughter. I am so sorry Bassy seems to be in pain. I would def pursue Nexium! If I remember correctl,y it worked for Eddie (Lanymama) when prevacid wasn't cutting it anymore and he has a lot of allergies like you ds.

I hope you have a better night tonight! Take care Melissa!

Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
i was just remembering while i was reading your post that after every time emi was in the hospital for procedure or admission her sleep once we returned home was awful for about a week. she was just scared to be alone. i wonder if that might be a factor for little bassy?? i indulged her and comforted her and once she was asleep (in my bed) i would drop her off in her crib, after about a week she went back to falling asleep in her crib by herself. *big hugs* i hope the mylanta worked and hes feeling better!

oh yeah i think it said on our EDG release form that spitting up and stuff is normal after the procedure and to lay off solids or to go back into them slowly for a couple days (emi had biopsies, she was already on nutramigen only diet at 10 months though) but i would call the GI and ask about those two things just to be sure. does your office have an on call GI? if they do on weekends you can usually talk to a dr directly.

My son did this on Prevacid but the dr didn't believe it was the problem. Our new GI switched him and within 24 hrs he was sleeping. He went from sleeping maybe 3 hrs in a day to taking a 4 hr nap the next day. He just could not tolerate the Prevacid. They just kept increasing him and should have been removing it. He reacted to the lactose in the medicine.

Hope this helps and big ((HUGS)) to you. I am sending sleep vibes your way... BTW Check with his GI but ours allowed us to do Bradden's Mylanta every 4 hrs as needed.

This is our dd, Alessandra. Dx with GER 10/07. Ran the gamut with meds and now done with them (crossed fingers). Using magnesium, probiotics and prebiotic supplements. With the exception of teething and general sassy attitude, all is well now. They really CAN grow out of it!
*sigh* I still don't understand why kids fight sleep like this. Yippee for Mylanta - it's been our saving grace at times too. The only sleep tip I have for you at this point it just let him keep moving until he drops (the jumper worked wonders for us and still does on frequent occassions) Though it may be around 11 or so at night, it can be so much more pleasant than the screaming. CIO doesn't work very well for us unless we have the perfect window of opportunity (like 3 minutes to her falling asleep)

Thinking of you!!!

Thanks, everyone! what started out as a horrible day/night ended on a pretty good note! We are obviously not doing CIO right now....Bassy screamed/arched/silent refluxed for a loooonnnnggg time, but I kid you not - AS SOON AS I shot in the Mylanta and my husband did a little rocking, he was OUT...and stayed that way from about 7:45 until 12:35 a.m. Then he ate (Mylanta in bottle) and slept until 4:45! Then he stirred and started to sit up (this is a bad hour for us because if we don't catch hi m in time, he is up for GOOD), but my husband jsut laid his hands on him, and he went back to sleep for an hour! Hooray! Now he is napping. Thanks for all the advice. I will talk to the GI (unless she is still vacationing somewhere) tomorrow and ask for a possible switch to Mexium. I talked to the GI on-call this a.m., and he said Mylanta is fine every four hours as needed. He also said it is fine to give it with Prevacid, but I am not going to do that.
