SID Confirmed
Well, our suspicions that our youngest son has SID was confirmed yesterday. We had our evaluation and will be starting sensory therapy next week. They feel he would benefit from weekly therapy, but due to him being so sensory sensitive they are afraid it would overwhelm him to have so much changed in his life that he might shut down or even regress. So we are doing it every other week. (it's daily therapy for us to do, but every other week we will meet with the therapist for more tools, techniques and so on) They will be using weighted blankets, snuggler wraps, feeding therapies and so on to help him cope with his world. It's going to be wild around here, that's for sure.

Mathias Johann - 12/14/05 - GERD, Hypotonia, Sensory Processing Disorder, Dyspraxia; Stopped silently aspirating at 20 months :)
First partial seizure on 7/2; First Endoscopy on 7/16; results: bile reflux gastritis.
New Meds: Zegerid & Carafate
Allergic to dairy
Bummer about the confirmation, but at least you now know what to do. I hope he responds well to his therapies. It took some time for them to help M but when they did - wow!. His therapy actually really helped me too b/c I was able to gain an understanding of what he was going through. Good Luck and keep us posted! Libby

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
I'm so sorry. I would like to understand and offer support. Could you tell me what SID I have heard of SPD, but not SID...

I will be thinking of you... it is hard to have your fears confirmed but sometimes a diagnosis is a good thing, at least now you have some things to do to help him to cope. You will have to keep us updated as to how the OT goes. Wishing you well!!!

SID is Sensory Integration Dysfunction and SPD is Sensory Processing Disorder. They are the same thing. SPD is just the "new" name for it but a lot of places still use SID. Libby
