Major Throw Up 16 mos. ??
Hello Everyone!! Sorry we haven't been around much. We've had Joseph's GERD pretty much under control with the Prevacid and he has FINALLY started sleeping better. Every once in awhile I can tell the reflux is breaking through the medication but we get through it. For several weeks I have been thinking it is time to increase his dosage... he is really growing and developing quick. He started spitting up every few days again... and now here's the confusing thing... yesterday afternoon after a perfectly normal day he threw up big time. Like back to the Volcano spit up days from infancy. It continued for several hours but he was fine in between each throw up. I thought he must have gotten a virus. He went to bed fine and slept really well. This morning he is Fine!! So what gives?? Is this the GERD?

Jennifer - 1st time mom. Lauren (6/1/07) diagnosed 9/07 with GER at 3 1/2 months. Prevacid 7.5 mg in the am. Currently drinking whole milk and eating great!!
No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
My guess would be, yes. We still occasionally have days (earlier this week) where Lauren hiccups constantly, spits up several times, seems uncomfortable, and has a major vomit -- but they are pretty spread out. I think Lauren's most recent flare day was a result of teething...could Joseph be getting any teeth?

It's good to see you back, sorry that you are here on crappy circumstances :( I hope Joseph is feeling good again soon!

mom to Mila 2-20-2007
and Robby 4-22-2004
Mila is on Peptamen JR 30 cal by NG tube. Open Heart Surgery 2/08/08. Captopril, Zantac, Losec, Lasix.
I think it sounds like a virus for the super major puke. Kids with GERD are more sensitive to puking, so a minor tummy ick can become a HUGE fountain. As long as he is fine this morning, I wouldn't worry about it tooo much. Glad he seems to be doing better!

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Good to hear from you! It's hard to say but I'm kind of thinking virus is more likely. Was he crying/painful with the throwing up? Maybe something is just causing his reflux to flare.

Currently drinking Elecare vanilla 30cal/oz and breastmilk.
Meds: Nexium 10mg 2x daily. Carafate as needed, miralaxx as needed, probiotics daily
Glad to hear he is doing better for the most part. Sorry about the puke. I would talk to the pedi about upping the dose if it has been a while. You'll be able to tell rather quick if it helps. The way I can usually tell if it's reflux for Cooper is by his breath. I try to smell it often and see if it smells like sour milk, or even new born baby breast milk poop. That is what it smelled like for months. Sorry I know that is kind of gross. He doesn't always scream in pain anymore, so that makes it hard. Also his sour faces help me know. Hope he's feeling better soon.
