Water and Flying
I was just wondering if anyone has tried to take water with them under the medical exemption clause while flying. I usually don't bother trying to press the issue and just buy some water once inside the checkpoint but I am kind of annoyed by this and intend to bring other liquids with me this time like juice since Aidan is still on a liquid/soft diet so I figured I would try getting water in too. My Surgeon wrote us a note saying his medical condition requires a liquid diet right now. I am just wondering if this is more hassle then it is worth. Anyone ever try this?

Well....we just flew a few weeks ago and I took her formula-already made-and neither airport said a thing or even made me try it. Not sure if it was the airports or what, but I was ready to drink it (thank goodness didn't have to). I called the TSA and asked. I would think as long as you have a doctors note they should not hassle you-we did that last year when we flew. Good luck. Does Aidan do formula through the tube?

No he doesn't have a tube. He is totally oral and drinks his formula through a sippy still. We have done formula through security many times but like you it was already made and we just made more later. I want to bring juice and water for him for later since he can't eat anything you can buy in the airport. I just think buying it inside of security is such a rip off.

You are allowed to carry on 3oz sized containiers, so bring the juice in those...LOL I don't think there is alimit to how many you can have.....hehehehehe

Igf you have a medical letter that will make it easeir for you to get through securituy. Jedd made it through with his, of course he ahd LOTS more medical equiptment with him. Including cold meidcations in a ice pack.

Just a word or waring. ALL and I mena ALL of the medications a bum creams I packed in my checked lougage, went MISSING. I had NO medications fo rJedd when we landed NONE. they all "disapperared". Even the RX creams for his tube site ALL gone!!!!!!

The hospital gave me the RX cream fo rhis site since he REALLY needed it from traume from testing whiel we were there. thank heavens. He would have been a mess by the time we got home.

Thanks Jessica. I had the same thing happen to me while flying a few years back. I put my meds in my checked luggage and no meds when I arrived. I was pissed because I had such a hard time trying to get a new script filled because insurance said I had just filled one. So I always put all 3 of our meds in our carry-on. Of course as I am sure you understand that can practically be a carry on it and of itself. I want to do amounts greater then 3 oz of juice so I am hoping the letter will help. If not I guess I chuck a few juices and waters at the security checkpoint.

I don't think they will hassle you too much if you have a doctors note. I would recommend allowing extra time for security and make sure you tell them that you have it rather than letting them find it. You can always *calmly* ask for a supervisor if you get a TSA person who's a jerk on a power trip, but I rarely run across any of those. Most tend to be relatively helpful. Good luck!

Mom (Danie) to Adam (9-4-03) & Nate (3-7-07) Nate was diagnosed with silent AR at 2 months old. He was on neocate, prevacid 30mg per day and couldn't start solids till he was almost 8 months old. He started cow's milk at 14 months and is currently off all meds!! So far so good :) PIC: Disney trip 2008. Nate didn't know Piglet was there, he didn't like the characters too much.
I have no advice...but I would love to hear how it goes. We are flying in Sept to go to Orlando. I HATE paying over $2 for a bottle of water. Nate drinks milk and water...I will be spending a fortune on that stuff with how much he drinks, lol. I am crossing my fongers for you that it passes right on thru!!
