Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site:
aawww, thanks for asking...:)~

Jedd is doing pretty well. The only vomits we have had have been when I brush his teeth. We are trying to adjust his schedule so that is making it to where I am brushing his teeth WITH food in his belly, NOT a good mix....:( So, I need to work on that. *sigh*. I could just NOT brush his teeth, that was DH's commnet on the subject....ROFLMAO

I have been fiddling with his afternoon schedule to work on it some, but am still seeing those vomits...I'll have to ry some more. I may just stop using th etoothbrush and maybe just rub a baby washcloth in there and see if that will work.

I am not sure if it's the taste or the act that is making him gag. He tolerated it before though, so I am inclined to think it's the full belly.

I am just amazed that cutting the night feeds have made such a HUGE difference in his vomitting episodes.

I mean, he can take 4oz of water at 7a.m. and turn right around and eat 4oz food and drink 3.5oz of milk and NOT vomit!!!! WHOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And BTW it's sooooo weird to NOT hook him up at night. It's strange. As a matter of fact, I still have the I.V. pole and pump at the foot of his bed. I haven't put them away yet...AND I think I am still going to make my HHC order for this month, just in case....LOL

I NEED to hang on to his pump for abit longer so that IF he needs it when he gets ill, I will have it and not have to go through a reorder process...that takes ALOT of work.

He still has LOTS of behaviour issues. So the OT and I have decided that if we go another 4-6 months and the behaviours have not started to fade into the background Jedd WILL need to go to a clnic for in paitent therapy. We are totaly comfortable with that.

But deep down, I really think he will need to go. He cna't keep NOT eating, by that I mena, I am doing all the work, I squeeze all the liquid and I spoon all the food. he sits there passively, well, sorta passively...LOL

You're doing a great job Jessica. I hope the weaning goes as planned. :) Have you seen those baby tooth brushes you slip on your finger? Maybe that would help? Mine gagged more on the reg toothbrushes then on those. Just a thought. ((HUGS)) to you. I am sure you are nervous, wanting a full success but not wanting to get your hopes up. We will be praying for you and Jedd. BTW... I take it your dh is not a dentist. LOL!!

Well I am so glad to hear he is doing great without his night time feeds. I am sure it feels weird not hooking him up but I am sure it is really nice at the same time. I hope you guys can figure out the toothbrushing thing. Aidan has some serious sensory/eating issues but he loves to brush his teeth for some weird reason. He brushes them at least 20 times a day. I hope Jedd surprises you over the next few months so you don't have to go inpatient with him. You are doing awesome and you will continue to make it work for Jedd.

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
This is so great!!!! Not sure if this would help in the toothbrushing department, but have you let him try to do it himself? I usually start Halley off and then let her finish (and then have to pry the brush out of her hand LOL!). From what I understand, it's more the habit that's important than the actual cleaning.

PS - your dh sounds just like mine ha!ha!

I'm glad he seems to be doing pretty well w/o the tube. I hope things will be going good enough soon where you can comfortably say good by to the tube for good. Maybe it is his gag reflex w/ the tooth brush. My mom gags everytime she brushes her teeth, she started this when she was pg w/ my brother. I hope you can get it all figured out. Your such a good momma to your little man!
