SEAMUS SLEEPS !!! IT'S BEEN A YEAR..
Oh my goodness! I am jumping off the ceiling right now with joy. I have not been this awake FOREVER..It pretty much took two nights. The first night was really bad. He woke up and cried three times. The first time he was awake for 30 minutes, the second time was 2 terrible hours. Then there was a CAT FIGHT under our house..It sounded like three crying babies and we really didn't need that! The third time was 20 minutes. The second night he woke up 4 times total. He only cried an average of 5 minutes at each awakening..Then last night he woke up only ONCE and cried for 3 minutes! We slept for hours and hours. I feel like I am finally crawling out of a deep dark cave and seeing the world with clarity. I never wanted to do CIO, but we tried everything before hand( Elimination diet, meds changing, beds changing, humidity/temperature changes, allergen removal, No Cry Sleep Solution techniques, papa doing the nighttime parenting, etc etc etc)I always thought CIO was a totally psycho idea but once again I have learned to let go of my expectations. I am so thrilled that the night weaning is working. We still have alot of work to do because he has not fallen asleep at bedtime or naptime unassisted..I have faith that will happen too !!! Three houseguests are coming this week, then we are leaving for a wedding, then later in the month flying back east. There are definitely some challenges coming up, so I'm a bit nervous about unusual sleeping arrangements. Hopefully this will continue! Seamus woke up SMILING for the first time since December. I hope other mamas and their children slept last night. I am sooo happy. Finally.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
Yahoo! Go Seamus! When people describe CIO, it does sound awful but when you do it you realize it isn't nearly as bad as it sounds. Especially when you get those zzzzzzz's, lol.

My dh wants to know how you pronounce Seamus' name. Is it with an "sh" or just "s" sound? He's standing here fussing bc I'm asking, lol.

No longer aspirating! Yippee!
Picture: Why would Lauren play with the hundreds of dollars worth of toys scattered in my living room?!?! When she could play in a box! Estimated move date: Oct. 3rd!
Congratulations! It is really tough to let them CIO and you did everything you could to avoid it, but look at him now :)

Good to know about the pronunciation of "Seamus"...I have been saying it wrong in my head all these months!

Melissa - Mommy to Sebastian, born 9/28/07 @ 7 lbs 7 oz and 20.75 in. At docs at 12 months: 27 pounds and 32 in! Good grief! GERD - currently on Prevacid suspension (liquid equivalent of 45 mg a day). Allergic to dairy, soy, eggs, wheat, all treenuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish, peas, sesame, bananas, barley, coconut, dust, dust mite, dog, cat, latex. Seasonal allergies. Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Neocate only - no solids - until further notice (drinks and loves water, too). Loves his doggie, our rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Louise, even though he is allergic to her. Louise will make your doctor a homemade pie if you would like her to. PHOTO: We couldn't do a cake on Sebastian's birthday, but that didn't stop him from tossing around the contents of a big bowl of popcorn! He now tries to eat it when we play with popcorn, so no more of that game.... :(
Hey Seamus' mama! YAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY! I am so, so happy for you. You got through the toughest part. and your little man is probably feeling so much better nwo that he actually got some rest. I just reread parts of Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child (GET THIS BOOK), an dit says that he doesn't know why eveyrone always says you have to have the kid fall asleep on his or her own and htat it doesn't matter. So I have been trying that...having Sebastian fall asleep before we put him down. And it works!! Now, he has bene waking up a lot at nice since he had that bad banana reaction weeks ago, but something is not right with him. He has been vomiting full bottles in the wee hours again (did today, actually), and is just rolling around and screaming and screaming and tugging his ears, so I haven't been making him cry. I have gone to the ped 4 times in two weeks (most recenly yesterday), and no ear infection - but he does have retracted eardrums and fluid in both ears...which hurts him. The stupid subtitute ped we saw yesterday said he'll just have to deal with it, so I am seeking a second opinion. Anyway, we'll try a little sleep training again once we have our results back next week. Maybe it will be as easy for Sebastian this time around as it was for Seamus. Congrats again! &&&&Let the sleep continue@@@@

I am so glad it worked for you! I am such a believer in CIO. I swear they become different children when they are getting enough sleep. Hopefully he will nap better and just continue to get better with every day. Congrats on hanging in there through the hardest part. I hope the amazing sleep continues for you.

Although he woke up smiling, the lil man is sooo cranky today. Every time we approach his crib, his bottom lip begins to quiver and he clutches me tightly..If we are right next to the crib, he looks inside and begins to cry. I put him in it with some favorite toys and he totally freaked out..How am I ever going to get him to fall asleep in the crib?CIO? Arghh. Well, one step at a time. At least I have been tantalized by sleep and it feels great !

I'm glad he is sleeping for you. Sorry that he is upset at the crib now. This happened w/ my neice when my sis tried to do CIO. She was so clingy and wanted to nurse allot the next day. I know that some books say if your child acts different, to try something else other than CIO, though it sounds like you tried everything. They gave it a few months and now do a very modified CIO and it works. I never want to have to do CIO either, but I feel like CIO can be ok, just not for itty bittys. Maybe in a few weeks it will get beter.

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
I'm so glad you got some sleep! Although now I'm gonna feel a little lonely.....:) Remember, you will only be able to make better decisions with more sleep, so no matter whether you continue on this course, or make changes, you will at least be doing so with an increasingly functional brain! I hope you all continue to sleep well!

Donnessa, mom to Halley born 3/10/07
Reflux (mostly) resolved at 14 months
and Addison born 8/17/09. Currently exclusively bf and on 7.5mg Prevacid
That's awesome!!! Does he have a nightlight or music in his room? That may help soothe the fear of the crib. He may backtrack a little with all the stuff you have coming up, but he should straighten out pretty quickly. Good luck!!

Kelly, mom of two boys with GERD. John (born 11/03) was on 40mg Nexium til 15 mos old. Second son Brian (born 05/07) started on Zantac. Now on 22.5 mg Prevacid Solutabs plus Carafate 0.5 ml 1 x day
Congrats! CIO is hard but for us with John it was the best thing we ever did. He is 4 and still a GREAT sleeper. As he got older we implemented sleep rules and those worked well for us too (still do). When I was pg, I read all the Dr Sears books and thought for sure I would follow "attachment parenting" but for us it didn't work and I think you just can't know until you actually have a child and are dealing with it what is going to work for you. Glad you are getting some well deserved sleep!
Check with your
doctor first!
