I spoke too soon. Quinn is having diarrhea again. My question is should I continue with just the pedialyte for the rest of the day, or should I let her have a feeding?

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
Oh sweetie, Can you do 1/2 and 1/2???? That's what Jedd tolerates during th day when he is ill. And we only let him have it about 1 oz at a time if he's real bad. mix her formula nd the pedialtye in equal parts is what I mena by 1/2 and 1/2 dilute it down with pedialyte.

I give him that mizture every hour.

I would take her in at this point just to make sure. To the ped. that is, I am like you I avoid the ER like the plaugue, They [ick up too omuch stuff there.

Hey, thanks so much for the advise. I decided to run straight pediasure through her tube at just 20ML/hr right now. So far, the only thing that I have noticed is gas and a bloated belly. I don't know if the reason she is not pooping it out right away though is because it hasn't passed through. It has been running for about an hour and a half at 20ml/hr and I just increased it to 25ml/hr to see if that helps. Do you think i should add some pedialyte to the bag? I know I should probably take her in, but I just don't see what they are going to do for us since she is acting totally fine. If she was really, really sick, it would be a different story, but her spirits and everything are totally normal, it's just her GI tract that is out of whack. Her fever comes and goes without meds. If it continues like this for another day or two, I will probably take her in because she really is loosing a bunch of weight, but she is peeing now. not much, but she is. -Sarah

I just checked Quinn's residuals and they are pink. I haven't given her anything pink! She had her pedialyte last night, but that was clear. Then she had her reglan this morning, which is orange, but I checked her residuals before I started her on the tube feeding and it wasn't pink then! It's all pink. Everything I pulled out was totally pink, no white or clear. What could it be? She is not on antibiotics and has not been for a while. Any ideas? I'm going to email you. -Sarah

You can just bump her up tiny bits at a time as she tolerates it. We did that with Jedd when he is real ill. I jsut pump like 1-5cc's an hour. I Hoe that works. I agree, if she's acting fine they aren't goign to do anything really...HUGS
