more zantac questions
should you give zantac before or after eating? i know it should be on an empty stomach, but i can only give the syrup to my child in a mixture of milk and carnation instant breakfast "chocolate milk" as he won't take it any other way. i try to give it to him in a small amount of this chocolate milk and the nurse said that was OK. would apple juice be better? is early morning and bedtime a good time to give it? anyone found any answers to all this? thanks so much.

Most RX for refulx are best given on an empty stomach so that they will be most effective at stopping the acid. We always do it at lest 30 min. before any meals.

Wanted to add. That kids do better with a "split dose". One AM and one PM. The reason for this is that children metabolize the meds. MUCH faster than adults. MOst reflux meds. are VERY weigth sensitive as well. So keep that in mind even if you switch.

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
I haven't found anywhere on the zantac prescribing info that it's important to do it on an empty stomach. I think it would be ok either way. We gave Maggie her's as soon as she woke up and right before bed.
