Nika 4 years - healthy and happy. Skyler 3 years - food allergies and intolerances, GER at 2 weeks, GERD at 1 year. Currently on 45mg Prevacid split dose, Reglan, Maalox X strength, and multiple respiratory meds for GERD related RAD (reactive airway disease).
Maalox vs Mylanta
Which is better for breakthrough pain. How did you choose which to use? Sky is on Maalox (since about 4 months old) and uses it daily. I dont remember why Maalox over Mylanta, I think it was a milk issue, but they both have milk, dont they? Anyway, Im going to ask about something else for breakthrough pain, because he's used Maalox daily for almost 3 years! And he still has pain... there must be something better we can do.

Connor DOB 5/24/07. Diagnosed with Laryngomalacia and enlarged epiglottis resulting in GER. Currently taking Prevacid 15mg in the AM and 7.5 PM and Mylanta for break through. Pic: I found my Easter bucket!!!
I wondered the same thing. The only think I can see different is that the maalox has more anti gas meds in it. I use mylanta because its what my "professionals" use and recommended. ;)

Kathryn, Pager Volunteer and mommy to Emily Mia 02/04/07. 3 years old with GERD. 30mg Prevacid and Pepcid AC. Mylanta needed for flares. Failed prilosec med switch. Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
i soured the labels and they both do not appear to have any milk in them. if it is it "might" be a lactose derivative. i have been using mylanta for emily for a couple months now. i don't want to say it's impossible, but every even minimal exposure to milk protein (not lactose) causes vomiting and rash. i choose mylanta b/c maloxx did not have a store brand where i went shopping... lol

We use Maalox Max per doctor's orders and it seems to help pretty well. We originally started out on Milk of Mag. but it had more of a laxative effect on Donnie than an antacid. -Liz

Our Pedi had us switch from Mylanta to Maalox because the Mylanta gave my son horrible diarrhea. I gave my daughter Mylanta and it worked great for her. I guess all kids are different.
