Hi from Jan
Hi Deepinder! Your daughter is beautiful. I think we talked a while ago. There are plenty of kids with severe reflux who get better. I hope some of them will see your message and let you know their stories. Jan

GERD after age 2
My daughter had severe GERD. She had audible wet burps up to age 6. She had multiple upper endoscopy biopsies showing severe esophogitis (inflammation of the lining), from infancy until age 6. Her last scope at age 7 show normal tissue. She hasn't had any "bad burps" in a long time.

Both of ours have had GERD beyond the age of two. Our first was very bad as an infant (labled FTT) and finally outgrew her GERD (as in is off medicines) at about three years old. Our second refluxer is currently almost 27 months old and is still on medicine for reflux. She was also very bad as an infant and had an apnea episode which scared us to death! I know she is getting better because her symptoms are under good control on her current meds. I don't think she is ready to wean off meds yet because I forgot one dose the other day and she went back to choking/wet coughing. I do feel like she may follow our oldest and be three before she outgrows hers as well. I have heard somewhere that when they don't outgrow reflux before two that they tend to wait until they are three to outgrow it. I am not sure how true that is but it has been the case, so far, at our house. I must also tell you that our current refluxer seemed to do worse for a while just after turing two and we had to switch her medicine. That did the trick and she is now well controlled and symptom free on her current medicine and dose. I am telling you all that just to say that there is definately hope that you daughter might outgrow hers as well. Beautiful pic btw... hope she is feeling well today! -Jen

My daughter did significantly better at around age three. If you click on my screen name you can see what she went through prior to that. She continues to have mild issues with reflux now at age ten but nothing like the difficulties she had before age three.

My daughter is almost 3 and still really bad. We're just trying a trial off of prilosec now, and its not going well. She's already got the wet burps back and she's creating her own elevated pillows using everything in her crib. *sigh* She's been FTT since about 8 months old. At almost 3, she's only 27lbs. I'd love to be able to be in touch with others still dealing with GERD.

Hey there...
My guy will be having the nissen done on Monday - he is 3 1/2... I am so excited and scared for my baby... I just know that this is the best thing for him... He has suffered for so long and hurts all the time... We have been up and down about what to do, but I am certain this is the right thing.. Feel free to contact me at my personal email if you want to chat...

GERD after 2
Hi, my son is 5 and has GERD that is a serious battle for us. I have no idea what this means for the long term, but it seems like he'll gain some weight, start to feel better, then go into a GERD "cycle" where days go by and it really bothers him. I tell myself it could be worse, but it breaks my heart when I see him start to eat his favorite food, then sadly push his plate away.

Nika 4 years - healthy and happy. Skyler 3 years - food allergies and intolerances, GER at 2 weeks, GERD at 1 year. Currently on 45mg Prevacid split dose, Reglan, Maalox X strength, and multiple respiratory meds for GERD related RAD (reactive airway disease).
Hi from Melanie
Hello there! My son Skyler will be 3 in december. He was diagnosed with GERD (not GER) before he was 2. Unfortunately things arent going great for us now. His reflux has been so bad these past weeks that I think its worse than it was when he was an infant (ad it was bad!) I hope he'll improve. We just moved from Rhode Island to Connecticut to enable him to see an entirely new set of doctors because I felt the previous doctors weren't understanding his pain and weren't doing anything productive to help (they were taking the lets just wait it out and observe approach for over 6 months now, with no changes or testing regardless of my complaints of pain and serious sleep issues). Here's hoping things will be better in CT!
