2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
Is there anybody out there?
Just wondering if anyone out there (PAGER volunteers included) know of kids that have had all these horrible problems (vomiting, not sleeping, screaming, food intolerances, etc...that come with GERD) that completely get better by 18 mths. or two years of age. I know the "happy spitters" generally get better by one, but I'm talking about the seriously ill children that battle this disorder. My son is 13 mths. and there is no end in sight. I'm looking for something positive to hang on to.

Dd (7) w/ SPD (sensory processing disorder), hypotonia, GERD, since birth. Previous PT, OT, Early Intervention, special ed, feeding clinic, feeding therapy from 2-3. Reflux meds since 2. Overcame severe feeding challenges, dysphagia, oral aversions, anxiety disorder. Weaned from reflux meds @ 6 1/2 yrs. A true miracle!! Ds (4) Prevacid 30mg, split am/pm; upcoming endoscopy. Ds (9 mos.), nursing, pureed foods, Zantac 1.2 mL 2x/day.
I'm not sure how much I can help you, as my four-year-old still battles GERD (as does my 5-month-old). However, from the time she was diagnosed at age 2 until now, we have seen a lot of improvement and she can now eat tablefood and lives a mostly normal life. Hope something here helps you.

Most Babies Out grow Reflux
Hello! The good news is that most babies outgrow reflux. Most babies start feeling better in the first year or two. I have talked with many parents who tell me that the reflux doesn't completely go away like magic. Some toddlers have symptoms but the symptoms are much milder. Perhaps a wet burp or an occasional vomiting episode. This is much easier to take than the day to day struggles of severe infant reflux. While there is no guarantee when and if your little one will get better, I encourage you to work with your doctor to make sure your son is on the best treatment plan for right now. Take care, Jan

Thanks - I'm doing what I can on my end (working with the Dr.s). I guess only time will tell. I was never in such a hurry for my other kids to grow up (like I am with this one)!

I hope there is hope! We keep being told to re-evaluate at every milestone... (6 months, 12 months, 18 months and then 24.) By 12 months she got significantly worse but we were able to control it with meds. At her 18 month checkup they said to re-evaluate at age 2. We went in today and they told us that at age two we would have to revisit the fundoplication surgery option that we refused when she was 18 months old. Today she is 20 months and there is still no end in sight but we have high hopes for 4 months of her body and esophagus maturing and healing. BUT on a good note- my step sister has a son who went from severe reflux as an infant- to completely healed just after turning a year old. So keep hope and keep sane. :O) You just might be in that lucky group that gets the early success story like my step-nephew. Thank goodness kids are so resilient. All they will remember from all of this is not the pain or frustration.. but that you were there for him/ her always.

Thanks for responding. I think we already passed the magic age of 1 where some outgrow this disorder, but I am glad to hear of any success stories. I just can't believe how much this impacts every part of the child's diet/health/behavior and family life in general.

Mum of William (aged 2) with severe GERD, suspected Sandifer Syndrome, G-tube fed. Mum also to Josh (healthy) and Matthew who died of Pompes disease.
I'm out here!
Sorry to hear about your battle with GERD. My son is 2 and was diagnosed at 4 months with GERD, NG fed from then until he was 9 months. Had G tube and fundo done then and is still refluxing and vommiting. He is only eating a table spoon of biscuit and milk every other day and has a general food aversion. We think he now has Sandifer syndrome as he throws his head back and has spasms whenever he is about the reflux. Our docs have no idea when/if he will grow out of it. The only med he is on now is Losec but I am not sure whether it actually does anything. I am really sorry that I cannot offer a 'cure' but just know that you are not alone.

Hey i'm a new gerd mom
Hey I know alot of time has passed but i'm here. I am brand new to gerd and talking online. I have a 6 month old daughter that was diagnosed with gerd at 4 weeks old. It has been horrible. Zantac didn't work for her now she's on prevacid and it ain't working either. I'm depressed and stressed out all the time. My husband and I only go on dates once a month because we only have one babysitter. I also have a very energetic 2 year old son. Everybody keeps telling me that my daughter will grow out of this but i'm not holding my breath. I wish I could be more helpful to you and others but i'm new to this. I would really love to talk about this to someone though. It is nice to know that i'm not alone.
Check with your
