MY 2 YEAR OLD HAS 4 CAVITYS DUE TO REFLUX
MY SON IS 2 YEARS OLD I HAVE GONE THROUGH ALOT IN THE LAST 2 YEARS FROM BAD BREATH TO DROPPING TO HIS KNEES IN PAIN , WIERD GRUNTING NOISES ONLY WHEN REFLUXING . HE IS ON PREVACID IT SEEMS TO HELP BUT WE HAD TO BRING HIM TO THE DENTIST , HE HAS 4 CAVITYS . THEY SAY THAT ACID REFLUX IS THE CAUSE IS THIS NORMAL ? HE ALSO HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO DRINK MILK AND WAS ON SOY MILK WITH 16 G OF SUGAR WITCH THEY TOOK HIM OFF AND PUT HIM ON PEDICARE TO GAIN WEIGHT WICH ALSO HAS 16G OF SUGAR IN IT SO WE HAVE TO GO IN FOR ORAL SUGERY ON THE 28TH . I FIND IT HARD TO THINK THAT ITS NOT THE ACID WEARING THE ENAMLE OFF HIS TEETH FOR MY SON BRUSHES AT LEAST 4 TO 5 TIMES A DAY HE LIKES TO BRUSH HIS TEETH . I ALSO AM WORRIED THAT IF IT DID THIS TO HIS TEETH WHAT IS IT DOING TO HIS INSIDES I WANT HIM TO HAVE A UPPER GI . TO PUT MY MIND AT EASE . AND HOPEFULL GET TO THE BOTTOM OF HIS PAIN , ANY FEED BACK WOULD BE GREAT .

acid and theeth
Hi I can tell you about my experience... My daughter, almost 4 years old now, also suffers a lot from acid reflux. We have also been worried about her teeth. We decided to have a talk with a dentist. And they advised us not to brush her teeth often. The reason for this is that the acid combined with the brushing will cause even greater damage on the teeth. Instead we were told to try and brush her teeth when the reflux was as little as possible and let her rinse her mouth with water when the acid was bad. They also suggested she could brush her tounge to get rid of the taste, but not her teeth. Liv, my daughter, is still medicated but her teeth look fine. We have them checked once or twice a year just to be sure. I do not know of course if the advices we were given are to account for that, but just wanted to share. And just my own consideration. Liv is also frequently constipated and has been given oral medication (for instance lactulose, danish name, sorry)containing lots of sugar. We were told to give her regular food or water every time she had had this medication since it is very sticky and could stay on her teeth for long and cause damage.... From your describtion your son also gets quite a lot of sugar in his food? And good luck with your son! Please ask if there is anything else you would like to know! Jeanette, Denmark.

Sleeping at night...(or not?)
Hi again. About sleeping at night. My daugther still wakes up at night. Though it seems to be going up and down for longer periods of time. Especially the last 6 months have been better. It helped a lot for us when we were allowed to use pills like link (magnesium based) and gaviscon at night. As far as I remember we started doing that when she was 3 years old. Gaviscon is also availeble as a sticky liquid and has been aproved for young children with problems like reflux. Its very effective for our children. Also for my son now age 8 mo who also suffers from reflux... The sleeping and waking pattern you decribe looks a lot like my daugther. She wakes up for a few minutes, crying and appears to be irritated by the sour taste. At times it also seems as if it is painful. A year ago she could easily wake up as much as 5 or 10 times every night. Now we rarely have those nights. Right now our son wakes up about 5-10 times but he is mostly easy to put back to sleep if we give him either a little water to drink or gaviscon. Hope this helps you. And your son of course. Jeanette
