Enfamil AR ~ How do I get rid of all the foam/bubbles?
I just recently switched my 4 month old to Enfamil AR. It is working out great as far as the reflux goes, but the foam and bubbles are causing terrible gas. I've always used Mylicon drops to get the bubbles out of her formula, but it simply doesn't work with AR. The stuff is too thick and the bubbles just stay suspended in the formula. Any suggestions?

I've also tried just letting it set for a while, but the bubbles remain!

When you prepare the formula do you shake it in the bottle? Have you tried preparing it in a separate glass and stirring it with a spoon then when it is mixed put it in the bottle. Just an idea, I haven't used AR but I know how bad the bubbles can be on baby's stomach. Good luck, Liz

This is going to sound funny. I have a battery powered formula mixer. It works great and no bubbles! They are about $4 and take 2 AA batteries. Also, have you tried the Dr. Brown bottles? There are more parts to them but the bubbles are greatly reduced. It's a great bottle.

I did some searching around and found some product reviews on epinions.com. Apparently, BTDT moms suggest that you mix it with COLD water in a large container with a whisk. This seems so stange to me because most formulas mix better with WARM water. Then DH reminded me that AR has added rice STARCH. When you use corn starch to make gravy, for example, you start out by mixing it with cold water. Other wise it just clumps up. The warm water makes starch thicken. So the cold water worked really well and made it much easier to mix. And using a whisk made it combine nicely without those awful bubbles and foam! Whoo!

We use room temp water for my son's bottles. I think the formula mixer acts like a wisk. I'm glad you found a solution.

what are you giving the AR for? i tried AR on my daughter, but it was too thick for hger to drink. her doctor put her on nutramigen that is great for colic. as for the air bubbles, try a bottle that takes liners, you can use the gas drops and then puch any remaining air out. it works trust me! have used gas drops and liners for all four of my daughters, it helps alot!
Check with your
doctor first!
