WEANING OFF PREVACIDHi. I have a five and a half year old who has been on either Prilosec or Prevacid for all his life. His doctor wanted to see if we could wean him off his medication, so rather than give him less, we were told to just cut him off. Now, he is having trouble sleeping and constant rumbling in his stomach. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for your help. This website has been so helpful for us.

Hospitalized 12 times, PT graduate! ST graduate! OT graduate! Current Meds: singulair, zopeonex, pulmicort, reglan, Keppra, Trileptal, vitamin B6, Veramyst. Current weight: 34 lb. Current height: 39". g-tube dependent, oxygen 1-2LpM all day and night PIC: Ms. Quinn
|I can't say that I've experienced this because my daughter is 81/2 months old and she is our first refluxer... but I do hope that he can get some relief soon. I'm dreading the time I have to take Quinn off her meds... or at least start weaning her. If I accidentally wait a little too long to give her her prevacid in the morning... then the screaming doesn't seem to end that day... I wish you luck. -Sarah|

Weaning off of PrevacidHi,
I realize it is now months later and by now hopefully your five and half year old is better. My son is only three and takes Prilosec. We have tried to wean him off by just cutting him off and he ended up not only having trouble sleeping, but had a runny nose and cough that persisted. When I inquired of his doctors they told me it is what they call "rebound". Basically they advise either alternating days for a week to two weeks and then stopping or reducing the dosage over time rather than stopping cold turkey. I hope this helps! Good luck!
