Is this the correct area to post about my 7 year old? I do not want to post in the wrong place. I have so much to say and so many questions to ask. Please let me know if this is the correct forum. Thank you.

We are new to this forum. We have an 8 yr old daughter who is also having severe reflux. We have been on Previcid two times a day which didn't help. She is now on Xantac. But won't take the liquid due to the taste. We are using over the counter Xantac and breaking it into 4. Just started this.
What tests has your son had? So far Kayla hasn't had any. But we are to see a GI doctor in 3 months. Which seems a long time away. Kayla also has had problems with tooth decay and had to have surgury. She has probably had this since about 2 yrs of age, but they thought it was seizure based, since she would wake up during her sleep.

trouble taking zantacAre you still having trouble getting your daughter to take zantac? I just went through the same thing with compounded prilosec and I have a few tips. Yes, the peppermint taste is nasty and I actually had a pharmacist tell me that kids like the taste! First, some pharmacies use FlavorX and can change the flavor without neutralizing the medicine. FlavorX will also have a home kit available sometime in Dec 2006 that you can use at home to flavor medicine. We belong to Kaiser in CA and they do not flavor medicine for us. My daughter took Zantac for about 5 months watered down in apple juice. Our local grocery store carries Torani flavored syrups made to flavor coffee. You can find it on the coffee isle. My daughter liked the caramel flavor. I would recommend checking with the pharmacist to make sure it doesn't neutralize the medicine first. Other people have recommended kool aid, but due to the high acidity it is not a good choice for these types of medicines. I also know of a cola syrup that is available over the counter, but again check with the pharmacist. Other than that, I bribed my daughter with a lollipop the first few days and after she learned that the medicine brought her relief she was really good about taking it. Hope this helps!

REFLUX??IM NOT SURE EITHER THAT I AM IN THE RIGHT PLACE??KODY HAS ALMOST CONSTANT TUMMY ACHE. HE IS ON 15MG PREVACID SOLUTAB ONCE A DAY. I AM GOING TO CALL THE DR. ABOUT MORE PREVACID, MORE OFTEN OR REGLAN. DO YOU GUYS KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT REGLAN OR HAVE YOU HAD GOOD RESULTS? MY DR SAYS THAT IT IS A OLDER DRUG AND THAT WE CAN TRY IT BUT SHE THOUGHT IT HAD SOME SIDE AFFECTS THAT AFFECTED THE LIVER, I THINK THE LIVER. I'M LIKE EVERY OTHER MOM, I THINK MY 6 YEAR OLD WILL BE BETTER WHEN WE GET THE RIGHT MEDS

Maggie is now 3 years old and reflux free (knock on wood). I still check in some to see how everybody is doing :) Hugs to all!
|Lots of the babies in the infant forum take reglan. I don't use it, but you may want to read our posts over there. Don't worry about being in the wrong place, it doesn't matter. We're all here for each other! The moms in the infant forum are pretty versed on these meds! I THINK reglan does something for delayed gastric emptying-if I'm thinking about the right med. |

Bonnie J.Does your 6yr old have dairy intolerance? There is dairy in the prevacid, my son at 5yr old is still MSPI, and had awful tummy ache on prevacid, we ended up with him on Nexium.
