baby with gerd
Hi- My 2 month old has had reflux since she was 4 days old. I cut a regular nipple, but the rice cereal/formula goes all over the place when she decides to spit it back up. Have you noticed better results with a ready-made nipple?

not sure if this will help....
Hi! For my son, we've used the "2" nipples and also "3" nipples.... I think by Avent .... For some reason increasing the number of holes allowed the rice to go through. We've varied the nipples depending on how much rice we were putting in each bottle. Not sure if that will help....

I'm not sure if this is what you're asking, but. My mother-in-law said "in the old days" they would heat up a safety pin and poke it through to make the hole bigger. It only works on the rubber nipples (not the clear ones). That's what I did for my son who had rice in his formula.

Other SLPs have reported that the Avent variable flow nipples work well as well. I would recommend either Avent nipple as opposed to cutting a nipple b/c sometimes (as it seems in your case) the hole gets too large the flow comes out too fast for the baby to swallow effectively.

Baby w/severe reflux!
My daughter has had cereal in her bottles since she was 6 days old we use the Vent Aire bottles. We were successful with just using Stage 2 nipples. We add 1tsp per ounce. Good-Luck!

We used the Playtex bottles. Is that what you're using? They do have the Y-cut nipples, so that's why I thought Playtex. We went through sooo many nipples at first!!!! We should've had stock in them! By mistake, my husband bought the greenish insulated ones. Oh, as soon as I looked at them, I said "What a waste of money. Did you even look at what you were buying?" Gotta love those hormones:) Out of desperation, we used them anyway. They are fabulous!! They are sturdy enough to stretch the hole a little. We stick an icepick through it to open it up a bit more. The other nipples if we would stretch them or cut them, would just tear more and the hole would get huge. I feel your frustration! Try the Y-cut greenish insulated ones. Good Luck.

Y cut nipples
We found the Dr. Brown bottles with the Y cut nipples worked beautifully for cereal feeds.

Dr. Brown's Y cut
I tried every bottle and nipple out there, and Dr. Brown's Y cut was the best for us. I did use Avent Variable flow nipples for a while too - but Dr. Browns were the best for cereal feedings. We had bottle refusal issues - so I would use whatever she would suck on the easiest - and sometimes change from week to week.

Y-Cut nipple flow to fast
Hi. I add 1 teaspoon per 3 ounces of formula for my daughter and find that the Y-cut nipple flow is much too fast. I have tried cutting every type myself but either it is too fast or too slow. Without any cut in the nipple, nothing comes out. I feel like I have tried everything. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Mother of 5 month old landen with GERD
i never did the y or x shaped nipples... what i do is stick the tine of a fork in the hole of the nipple its small at the bottom and gets thicker. it took me a couple tries to get it right but id start it out small and then if he needed it a little bigger i would just get the fork and push it in further.
