To Marly's Mom regarding prevacid solutab administration to a 6 week old
Hi, You will get more responses if you post your question as a new topic. Thought I would help get that started! I give the prevacid solutab pill to my 4 month old. I started him with it at about 5 weeks. What I do is dip it in water, then quickly place it in his mouth toward the back on the side against the inside of his cheek. Then, I dip a pacifier in water so it is dripping with water (and some gets inside the nipple) and put it in his mouth. His sucking on it produces more saliva to help it melt faster and since the pacifier is wet, that helps it along, and the tablet was wet to begin with. The pacifier keeps all of it in his mouth, and if you leave it in there for a minute, he sucks all the particles off the pacifier so that eventually it all goes down without any mess. It works great as long as he keeps the paci in long enough. He almost always does. I just hold it there gently to help it along. Before that I tried dipping it in water, then placing it in his mouth, then using a medicine dropper to put water in his mouth, but that got a little messy sometimes, because some would come out. I found this new way to be the best. Hope it helps! Carla

That sounds like a good idea
I did the following: I had a metal baby spoon. I would put the solutab on the spoon, put a few drops of water on the tab to get it to disintegrate and then Dump quickly into the back of Lauren's mouth. My hubby didn't get the hang of it very well.. but mommy ruled! :) It doesn't have to totally dissolve.. just so the large chunks are gone and baby can swallow it. Best of luck!! My daughter started it at ~5 weeks. Karen

more info on solutabs
Those both sound like great ways of doing it. Wow everyone on here is sooo ingenious! When we were on the solutabs, we put 1/2 teaspoon water in a shot glass with the solutab and would suck it up into a medicine syringe to administer it. This worked great for us. :)

syringe
Hi, we use the solutab too. Our gi gave us a "prevacid" brand dropper specifically made for this application. We put the tablet in the syringe and then add 3-4 cc's of water. The solutab dissolves in the syringe and you essentially get a liquid. You can shake it, or whatever to get it to dissolve. Only trouble is getting all the granules out! A spoon would work too. erin

Great tips
I have been having a lot of trouble giving my son his Prevacid. I have been disolving it in a dropper of water, but he spits most of it out and often even if he does get it down, he spits it up afterwards. I'm going to try the pacifier trick. Thanks Carla!

Powder Packets
There is a powder form of Prevacid that comes in 15MG packets. You mix the powder with water and then spoon feed it to your baby. It is stawberry flavored. My son had the powdered form of Prevacid from 2 weeeks old until he was 9 months old - then he had the solu-tabs. I remember reading somewhere that if you dilute the solu-tabs in water, it will lose its effectiveness...something to look into.
