pyloroplastyI was just wondering how many people out there have any experience with the pyloroplasty surgery. Is dumping syndrome a problem with that or just the fundo? We are meeting tomorrow with a surgeion at The Clevelnad Clinic to discuss surgery options for our 9 month old and I was just wondering what people's experiences were. He has exhausted the medication route and has already had 2 endoscopies and a gastric emptying study which showed he was very delayed. Any response would be appreciated!

My son had a pyloroplasty done with a fundo. Dumping syndrome can be a problem with either the fundo or pyloroplasty alone or together. I don't know your child's history but at 9 months old, there is just so much time for him to outgrow things. I know how frustrating it is to feel like you have hit a brick wall and your child isn't doing any better however, there is definitely a chance that he will outgrow his reflux. I would be very cautious pursuing surgery in a 9 month old unless his problems are life threatening. I'm sorry to word things so strongly because I have been in your shoes with a baby who was doing very poorly. He didn't outgrow his reflux but I'm still glad we gave him the opportunity.|

|I appreciate your response. Our surgeon wants to do the pyloroplasty alone at first and then do the fundo if needed although he doesn't think that it will be necessary. Our little guy has delayed gastric emptying (about 3x) and they think this surgery will help. He is also vomiting in excess of 20 times a day. Are there certain questions or issues that I should raise with this surgeon. My husband and I were thinking that this was the way we should go but now I am hesitant. His pyloric muscle keeps narrowing and the docs have had to use a neonatal scope during his two endoscopies to widen it to only have it snap back the same day! Although none of this is sounding life threatening to me. How long did you wait before your child had the surgeries. The surgeon said that one of the downfalls of waiting to see if he outgrows it is that the vomiting can become behavioral? Our babe has been vomiting like this since he was born and I do not know that if it is something structural can they outgrow it? Any response would be appreciated.||Check with your
