GI and Surgeon recommendations in PA
Hi, Anyone out there know a great surgeon and/or GI in PA? We're happy with our GI (Dr. Maksimak) but haven't met the surgeon yet. They are at Geisinger, but we will most likely go to Philly (CHOP) for a second opinion. Someone mentioned a Dr. Adzack. Is that Philly or Pittsburgh? Thanks, Sherry

PA surgeons
Hi. I'm in PA too - just outside Philly. My son uses CHOP for most of his care. He had a lung biopsy done by Dr. Adzick (who is in Philly) in February and I can't say enough good things about him. My son also sees a surgeon at Boston Childrens who has highly recommended Dr. Adzick for my son in the future since he is now retiring from doing complex procedures. As for GI, my son's GI is only in one day/week now but there are several excellent peds GIs at CHOP. Feel free to e-mail me at sknmom@aol.com if you specific names. Patti

Hi, My email isn't working so I thought I'd try you here. When you say "complex procedures" would that include fundo? I'm limited to this state by insurance so that's CHOP, Geisinger or whatever they have in Pittsburgh (not familiar). It seems I'm hitting dead ends for good surgeons. I just found out that the one usually recommended at Geisinger is retiring and now, you say, Dr. Adzick as well...

PA surgeons - Sherri
Hi Sherri, Spence's complex procedures were reconstructions of his esohagus and stomach (long story). Its been a long day and I probably wasn't clear with my post to you. I'm sorry about that. The surgeon who is retiring is the surgeon Spencer sees at Boston Childrens. Dr. Adzick is in his 50s and is nowhere near retiring at this point. He's Chief of Surgery at CHOP and is definitely more than competent at doing a fundo. We feel very comfortable with Dr. Adzick. He did a lung biopsy on Spencer earlier this year and we continue to follow with him for Spence's long term surgical issues. Patti

Hi Sherri, My son had a fundo done about 3 months ago. I don't know where you are in PA but Hershey Medical Center has some really good ped. drs. I really liked the one who performed my sons surgery. Actually he has had two surgeries done there and both with good results. Sherri in PA also
