I am curious....any children with green watery poop after a successful fundo?????
It probably isn't a big deal, but it's bugging me. My daughter will be 3 in march, and had her 2nd fundo this past October. The fundo went really well and things are under control now. However, ever since the fundo, she has had green watery poop. At first, the GI suspected a little dumping syndrome. I didn't notice any of the symptoms (and it didn't seem to hurt) other than the fact that things seemed to go right through her. This was a huge change from before the fundo when constipation was a chronic problem. I was actually not that concerned at first because I thought "hey, at least she isn't constipated and gassy like after her 1st fundo!". He thought it would fade as time went on and after a few weeks, it did. She was fine for a month or so after it went away then it started again. She started complaining of stomach aches, and the poop was so green and watery it would go up her back and down her legs. I started noticing that the complaining of a stomach ache happened mostly after she had cheese and milk. I took it out of her diet and the watery part faded out and the stomach aches disappeared. I thought it was strange because she was never lactose intolerant before...i know this for a fact. I wondered why all of a sudden she could be intolerant. Anyway, the GI explained that it is acquired and if the fundo altered her stomach in any way, the fundo could cause it. Her poop is still green though and although it isn't as watery as before, I have to give her a banana every day to make it a normal consistency. This is so opposite of how she was before, although how she was before was awful. It just bugs me that bile is coming out in her poop and makes me wonder if there is a reason to be concerned. She has gained back the weight she lost and is eating well, so the GI isn't concerned. I get the feeling there is something he isn't telling me though!!!!! Any thoughts???? Carla

re: green poop
Sometimes the color is indicative of how fast it is moving through the GI tract. It could be post fundo that it has affected the motility of her lower GI tract as well as the motility of the stomach. If she is eating and gaining weight and not in any discomfort then I wouldn't be too concerned.

Green watery poop
My 2 1/2 year old daughter had green watery poop from birth until last May when I put her on a dairy free/soy free diet at the recommendation of her ped GI. Her green watery poops cleared up completely after starting the new diet. She had a successful fundo on 9/1/04 and is still on a dairy free diet, although I have since introduced soy successfully. My daughter's pooping situation has not changed since the fundo, unlike your daughter's. I really want to try her on dairy products soon, but I am afraid to make eating worse. She is still having problems with eating after the fundo (food gets stuck and doesn't seem to push through the fundo even though the surgeon said it isn't too tight). I'd be interested to hear what you find out. Sorry, I don't have much to offer. Keep us posted.

dairy free for a long time has made the green go away
I stuck with the dairy free diet for the last few weeks, and not only did her poop stop being watery like I wrote in the original post, but sticking with it longer has made it a normal brown color now too. I thought it was interesting that the fundo seems to have made a drastic change in how she digests certain foods that she previously didn't have trouble with---especially since the 1st fundo didn't change anything regarding digestion. Her GI suugested getting lacti bacili and adding it to her morning smoothie that she drinks. He said that it may help her digest the milk products. I got it this morning and I am going to see how it works. Thanks for the responses. Carla

scratch that dairy free made it go away--just one good day
The day I wrote that it went away was speaking too soon! It seems as if she has dumping syndrome. At this moment I am feeling like we traded one set of problems for another. She is still way better than she was before the fundo so I am grateful for that. I just need to learn how to manage this now!!!!!!! Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a perfect fix?!?! Carla
