There is a system of ligaments and webbing that hold the abdominal organs in place. If the organs sag, the motility won't work properly. It can lead to kinking of the intestines or telescoping of one section inside of another section (volvulus).

Visceroptosis is the old word. It was thought to be caused by poor posture or reliance on tight corsets.

Glenard Syndrome, lax ligaments or poor abdominal tone might be the current terms.

If lax ligaments are present in the entire body, the person may be diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos or hypermobility of the joints. People with Ehlers Danlos often have GERD.
